Green Day releases 6 new tracks

Green Day have released six new tracks under their Foxboro Hot Tubs alias. The band, who confirmed that they were the artists behind the group earlier this year, have made the songs available for download.

It is now believed the group will give a physical release to their Stop Drop and Roll!!! LP on vinyl and CD. The album appeared briefly to download in December 2007. Singer Billie Joe Armstrong confirmed they were behind the ’60s style garage band, admitting the name comes from somewhere he used to get “booze” and “chicks” when he was growing up.

Green Day’s last studio album was 2004’s American Idiot, which featured the hits ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams’ and ‘Holiday’.

Alicia Keys and gangsta rap

Alicia Keys has attempted to clarify comments she made about gangsta rap in a magazine interview.
The singer told Blender that the musical genre was created by the US government to “convince black people to kill each other”.

However, she later said she was “disappointed” with the outcry caused by the remarks, telling Ryan Seacrest’s radio show: “Somehow it got misinterpreted that I was saying that the government was creating gangsta rap - and that’s not what I was saying.

“What I was saying was that the term gangsta rap was so over-sloganised during that time… That’s what I was trying to talk about.

Leona Lewis, 1st British Female Chart Topper

Leona Lewis has become the first ever British female artist to debut at number one on the US album chart.
Her Spirit album, already a chart-topper in the UK, Australia and Germany, sold 205,000 copies in the US last week to top the Billboard 200 chart.

Simon Cowell described Lewis’s achievement as “incredible”, saying: “This is the hardest market to crack and for her debut album to go in at number one is unbelievable.”

Lewis becomes the first British solo artist to top the US album chart since October 2006, when Rod Stewart made number one with his Still The Same… Great Rock Classics Of Our Time album.
This isn’t Lewis’s first taste of American chart glory. Last month her debut single, ‘Bleeding Love’, made number one on the US singles chart.

Sade was the last British female artist to hit — though not debut at — the No. 1 spot with Promise, way back in 1986.
