The TV Craze in Ramadan- Like it?

 bab-alharra3-snap.jpg Bab el Harra

Ok, we made fun of the whole “Noor” craze that swept over Jordan the past two months, but now that Noor is over, we’ve got Ramadan, and Ramadan is the ultimate crazy month for TV dramas! We’re talking MARATHONS of TV serial watching, people avoiding going out to watch their favorite series, and I even know families who eat iftar in front of the TV so as not to miss their episodes if they’re at that time! Ridiculous! But also lots of fun, because I think the best quality of TV production in the Arab world comes out in Ramadan… I mean this is when the big boys come out to play, all the best series are premiered in Ramadan, and you can tell that they’ve had a lot of work put into them, so it is quite enjoyable for Arabic TV connoisseurs.

We want to know your opinion on this matter! Do you like the TV craze, are you part of it? Do you avoid watching TV in Ramadan? What is your favorite show if you’re into the whole TV craze of Ramadan? Let us know!

Get your voice on air! We want to hear your opinion and get it on the air, with your own voice, playing during the day about this hot topic of Ramadan. If you want to hear your voice on the air and talk about this subject then just email maha@play.jo and I’ll be calling you up to get your soundbite about this!

Muhannad-mania in Jordan

muhannad-cartoon.jpg

I love the cartoons of Emad Hajjaj. Here’s a recent gem of his, and just in tune with the whole Muhannad-madness that happened in Jordan this week with the visit of the Turkish actor who plays Muhannad, real name Kivanc Tatliguoaidjofidsfadfa  (it might as well be spelled that way since I can’t pronounce it either! Any Turkish Play listeners, please feel free to message me and tell me how to pronounce this guy’s name! :D).

Yesterday we were talking about how “Muhannad” is so loved here in Jordan and how, by visiting a children’s hospital and giving gifts to disabled kids he just played up his whole good guy, hero image. I’m a little suspicious of ya Muhannad now, I mean are you really so nice as to make a trip to Jordan to see disabled kids, or are you just trying to win over the 1% of ladies left in Jordan who aren’t in love with you yet?

Anyway, Noor is still all the rage, and I read in the newspaper that over 100,000 Saudis alone are expected to visit Turkey just because of the popularity of this show. (They have turned the palace where they film the show into a tourist attraction, you actually pay money to go in and take a look around!)

What do you think about all of this?
